This scene is after Herminia Layton (Professor Layton) went to investigate the events surrounding Clarence's death when she saw the article in the newspaper was censored. She got the files but was attacked by a group of thugs hired by Bill Hawks. They stabbed, cut, and beaten her to the point she was barely living and left her for dead. Descole who was investigating a mysterious deal Targent made with a scientist, stumbled upon his almost dead sister. And does everything in his power to insure he doesn't lose the last of his family.
